Australia has been grappling over the recent controversy that centres around the topic of ‘religious freedom’ after a social media post by Australia’s greatest rugby player, Israel Folau. Folau called all people to repentance in Jesus Christ. The controversy? The LGBT community were included. So what is a Christian to make of all the posturing? How must we live in a pluralistic society? Let’s talk about it.
The Holy Spirit – His Baptism

We read in the book of Acts of a fascinating event – the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. As tongues of fire settled on their heads, each disciple spoke with a new tongue. Ian McCormack – A Glimpse of Eternity
Ian McCormack was night diving off the island of Mauritius when he was stung by 5 Box Jellyfish, which are among the most venomous creatures in the world. Ian fought his way to the poorly equipped and staffed hospital on the island in an epic struggle to survive. Sadly, Ian lost his fight for life as the medical staff tried desperately to save him and he died. What happened next is his amazing testimony of visiting heaven, hell and meeting our loving saviour, Jesus.

Jesus gathered 12 disciples to himself. They were equipped by Jesus to perform ministry and mission – which included preaching the gospel, healing people, casting out devils and raising the dead. This equipping was expanded to the 72 in Luke 10 – and then finally to all peoples of all nations in Matt 28. Bottom line – we’re all called to be equipped for ministry and mission.

Romans – The Heart of the Matter

Romans in chapter 2 teases out the psychology of the religious person. Paul reveals that the problem with religious people is where they place their confidence – in their possession of truth and in their association or religious membership. The fact is that God’s focus has always centered on the condition of people’s hearts. Time for the surgery of scripture.
Romans – God’s Perfect Judgement

Non-believers in Christ generally and almost universally reject God’s assessment of their sinful state. They also reject God’s judgement of their sin preferring instead to form a God of their making, a God who does not judge but tolerates all sin). The reality, as Paul teaches, is that God will apply perfect judgement against all people of the earth.

About Baptism

The Power of Words

Throughout scripture we read that words are powerful – whether it is God speaking creation into existence, or Jesus speaking light and life into people that He ministered to – words have power! The writer of hebrews takes us further and states that “the word of God is living and active!” God has given us the power to speak life or death. If we want to sow the seeds of life then we need to begin speaking the words that bring life – God’s word!
The Blood of Jesus Overcomes

The shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ is what enables us to overcome the enemy (Rev 12:11). When you understand the blood of Christ and what has it has accomplished for you, then each one of us can take our stands against the devil and his accusations against us. We then, like the Hebrews living in Egypt, apply the blood to our lives by faith – and so we grow in our ability to overcome all the devil’s schemes.
The Blood of Jesus

The bible refers to the ‘precious blood of Jesus’ as that which saves us. When we think about the cross, we often focus on the death, burial and resurrection. But at the cross, the blood of Jesus was shed through injuries, beatings and ultimately being speared through the heart. It is the most important factor in how our salvation is won. Without the ‘shedding of blood there can be no forgiveness of sin’ – thanks be to God for the shed blood of His one and only son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
